Reading the Result
After a nest, NestMaxx tells you how it went. Knowing what the numbers mean helps you decide whether to accept the layout or try to improve it.
The headline numbers
Above the canvas and in the status area you will see a summary such as:
179/179 nested · 1 sheet · 82.4%
Read it as three facts:
- Nested (
179/179) - how many parts were placed out of how many you needed. When these match, everything fit. If the first number is lower, some parts did not fit. - Sheets (
1 sheet) - how many sheets the job used. See Multiple Sheets. - Utilisation (
82.4%) - the share of the sheet covered by parts. This is the number to watch: higher means less waste.
The heading above each sheet repeats this per sheet, for example Sheet 1 · 179 parts · 82.4% plate utilisation.
Plate utilisation
Plate utilisation is how much of the whole sheet your parts cover. The rest is offcut and the gaps between parts, so a higher percentage means less wasted material. It is the fairest single measure when you compare two layouts: nest the same parts two ways and the one with higher utilisation is the better use of your stock.
Warnings to watch for
Alongside the totals, NestMaxx may show:
- Unplaced - parts that did not fit within the sheet limit. Give the nest more room (more sheets, tighter quality, less spacing, more rotation) and run again.
- Parts to review or cannot be cut - parts that need a second look before cutting. Open the part and check it in Part Properties, and edit the shape or drawing if needed.
Improving the result
If you want a higher utilisation or to fit unplaced parts:
- Raise the Quality to Tight. See Quality and Speed.
- Allow more rotation. See Rotation and Orientation.
- Reduce the spacing, if your process allows. See Spacing and Clearance.
Change one thing at a time and re-nest, so you can see what actually helped.
The cursor read-out
As you move over the canvas, NestMaxx shows the cursor position on the sheet, such as Sheet 1 · X 120.0 Y 340.0 mm, measured from the sheet’s origin. It is handy for checking where a part sits.
